To the prestigious Chelsea Art Society exhibition once more

I am so pleased to say that my painting “Quiet Under Red Skies” has been pre-selected for the Chelsea Art Society 75th summer exhibition in Old Chelsea Town Hall, London. It’s such a wonderful show and I feel honoured to be bringing my painting for the in-person round of judging for the second year in a row.

Success last year

I will have my fingers and toes crossed to be included in the prestigious company of the final selection. Last year, two of my paintings were pre-selected: “Huddled Together” and “Big Scratch”. To my delight, “Huddled Together” was hung at the exhibition and it also sold to a lovely new owner (prints still available here).

I was lucky that my parents in law were able to transport these paintings to the exhibition last year. However, this year I am travelling down myself to enjoy an art-filled day in the centre of London.

Inspiration for this year’s entry

I painted “Quiet Under Red Skies” from a reference photograph I took coming down Stanage Edge in the Peak District. The sun was colouring everything red and threatening darkness. I had just finished a different painting on top of the hill and was ready to head home for a late dinner. But then, just by sheer luck, I spotted this scene.

Stretching my arms above the dry stone wall and standing in brambles I took some incredibly inspiring shots. I knew immediately that this view had to be committed to oil paint.

Given last year’s success, I have high hopes for the painting this year, as it is one of my own personal favourites, and I believe it deserves a bit of love and recognition before finding a permanent home.

The exhibition is open June 12th – 17th in Old Chelsea Town Hall and is well worth a visit. More information: https://chelseaartsociety.org.uk/wp-content-uploads-2024-05-chelsea-art-society-email-invite-2024-pdf/
