Oil on deep edge canvas, framed in a solid wood black frame, size: height 65cm x width 95cm x depth 5cm. Unframed size 60 x 90cm.

The painting depicts a sunset on one of the most magical days of summer – the solstice – in one of my favourite spots in the magical Peak District National Park, Surprise View. The ancient forest there was cut down many years ago and the trees have just started coming back in the last couple of decades. The first trees to regrow are the silver birch. These birches look so delicate against the luminosity of the setting sun, with the palette of colours on the moor are just so joyously inviting.

Available framed in a 15mm black floater frame with a 10mm shadow gap between the painting and the frame to give a “floating” effect. This also means that the beautiful pink underpainting is just slightly visible inside the shadow gap, creating a gorgeous edge highlight.
